The world is warming, sea levels are rising, species are going extinct – and if humans keep burning fossil fuels and forests, this will only happen faster. In an era of unprecedented environmental change, gloom and doom are easy to come by.
We’re often encouraged to make changes to our lives for the sake of our planet. But we can’t do everything, and even if we could, would it even matter? Should we ban plastic straws? Drive electric cars? Install solar panels? Buy organic? It can feel pretty overwhelming. But what if we took it one step at a time?
Our reporters dive deep into sustainability science, reporting what is known, and what we don’t know, about how the environment is changing and what we can do about it. We focus on small things, like the most efficient way to boil a cup of water, and big things, like how the Inflation Reduction Act will affect you and your state. Episodes of Possibly are under 5 minutes long, action-based, non-partisan, easy to understand, and reviewed by our scientists and sustainability experts.
Housed at Brown University’s Institute for Environment and Society, we sometimes focus on our home state of Rhode Island but we also answer questions from all over the country and the world.
