An honor guard of 40 or more journalists will escort the casket of the late investigative reporter, Jim Taricani, into church ahead of his funeral on Thursday.
This is meant as a show of respect for Taricani, who was highly respected for his many years of work as a reporter at WJAR-TV, NBC 10, and a display solidarity for protecting First Amendment rights.
The funeral is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Church in Kingston. Calling hours are set for Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Warwick.
Taricani, 69, died Friday from kidney failure.
Taricani was known for his probing coverage of Rhode Island politicians and mobsters. He defied a contempt order by declining to reveal a source of an evidentiary videotape from the case against former Providence Mayor Vincent A. “Buddy” Cianci Jr.
