Today, I want you to imagine moving to a new country where they speak a different language. Maybe you don’t have to imagine, you’ve done it and know the answer to this question. But for everybody else, where do you get your news? Yeah, you could read or watch or listen to the news from your old country, in your mother tongue, but what if you needed to know about school closures for your kids or accidents on the highway or where to vote or, imagine, the latest update on a life-threatening pandemic? 

My guest today is Tony Mendez. He’s the co-founder and CEO of Poder 1110, the first 24-hour Spanish-language radio station in Rhode Island. But he started out as an immigrant kid, working the cash register at his family’s store on the South Side of Providence. Here’s our conversation.
