The Slip at Fete Music Hall: Friday, November 12th. Doors at 7:00 PM

Chuck Hinman:
The slip is three local guys: brothers Brad and Andrew Barr and Mark Freedman. Brad and Andrew are also more recently part of the Montreal-based indie folk band, the bar brothers. I talked to Brad bar recently by phone from Montreal about his roots here.
Brad Barr:
My brother and I are from Providence, we grew up on the East Side, right off Thayer street, and then Mark the bass player, he’s from like Southeastern Mass. near Lakeville. And the three of us went to the same high school together. We sort of say that ‘95 was the year the slip formed, because that’s the year we all went to Boston together, living together and playing regularly as a trio.
Chuck Hinman:
So when you play in Providence on the 12th, is this going to be a homecoming or just another show?
Brad Barr:
Definitely not just another show. In my mind, it’ll be like a homecoming, like you said. You know, I’m sure there’s going to be a percentage of the folks in the crowd who feel the same way. Truth is, I have no idea. I know back in the early 2000s, we could’ve counted on, I think about 1000 people was the most we played for at Lubos. But I have no idea what the turnout is going to be. It’s a funny thing. It’s sort of a legacy reunion tour. And I’ve never done that before. So there’s a lot of unknowns. But for sure, Providence, more than anywhere else, even more than Boston, has that homecoming thing for me. It’s pretty exciting.
Chuck Hinman:
So what can fans expect from the show coming up? Is it going to be like a Slip retrospective? Will there be any Barr Brothers songs in there? Do you know yet?
Brad Barr:
I’m curious. I don’t know how many people you know will be coming to the shows who are Barr Brothers fans. I don’t know if we’re going to be hearing people like requesting Barr Brothers songs. But the mandate is no. There’s enough material that the Slip has dating back to the mid ‘90s, right up into this year. We’ve got new music, so I think there won’t be any need to dip into the Barr Brothers repertoire.
Chuck Hinman:
Well, Brad, thanks so much for talking to us and all the best when you get to Providence, I think it’s probably going to go great.
Brad Barr:
Thanks, Chuck. I appreciate the confidence. I really appreciate you taking the time to do the interview. Thank you.
Chuck Hinman:
Brad Barr mentioned some new music from The Slip and here it is a new single just out last week called Superterranean Onlyness. The Slip will be at the Fete Music Hall in Providence Friday night. For The Public’s Radio, I’m Chuck Hinman.
