RI revisits name change ballot question

This year, Rhode Islanders again have a chance to shorten the state’s official name via a ballot question. Some say “State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations” is a painful reminder of slavery. The move to allow the ballot question passed in the legislature easily this summer. But others, including some candidates for local office, say they see no reason for a change.
