A researcher from Yale University says the way people interpret scientific information depends largely on their political ideology.
Dan Kahan spoke this week on the topic during an annual lecture series at the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography. He teaches a course on the science of science communication at Yale and has researched public risk perception of climate change.
He told Rhode Island Public Radio’s environmental reporter Avory Brookins that the media may be unfairly blamed for public misconceptions about science. That’s because Kahan says people choose media that will confirm their beliefs.
