Meadowbrook Farms School, a public pre-k through second grade school in the town of East Greenwich is closed.
The school principal was notified Tuesday morning that a family with a child in the school had recently traveled abroad. A sibling, who does not attend Meadowbrook Farms School, has fallen ill with fever and cough. The student who attends the school has no symptoms.
No students or staff are currently under investigation for the virus.
However, the school was closed out of an abundance of caution. The school department is following protocol from the Rhode Island Department of Health for closure and cleaning. Parents and students in the town were notified via letter from the superintendent Tuesday.
Two other schools are closed in the state; Achievement First Charter School in Providence and St. Raphael's Academy, a Catholic School in Pawtucket. They are both related to the two presumptive confirmed cases of the virus in Rhode Island. Staff at both schools attended the same educational trip to Italy last month.
