Hundreds of High School converged on the steps of the statehouse Friday to protest the inauguration of President Donald Trump. The students held banners and megaphones as the inaugural ceremonies played out in Washington.
The protest was organized by the Providence Student Union, a nonprofit student advocacy organization. Many students from around the state walked out of their schools to attend.
One of those students, 18 year-old Doug Sockbeson, attends the Greene Charter School in West Greenwich. He said he’s concerned that Trump will undo the work of his predecessor.
“Progress like gay rights, and Obamacare,” said Sockbeson,”and all these other things that were put in place by Obama that could be destroyed and threatened with the inauguration and election of Donald Trump.”
Providence Public Schools officials did not endorse the walkout and said students missing class would receive an unexcused absence
