Two employees of Zambarano Hospital in Burrillville have been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. A spokeswoman for the state department of Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Hospitals says the agency has referred findings from an internal review to state police.

The news follows allegations of abuse at Rhode Island’s other state-run hospital campus, Eleanor Slater. An investigation substantiated some of those allegations, and new leadership has been put in place.

Zambarano is a state-run hospital for people with serious developmental or physical illnesses. Patients stay for short term rehabilitation or long-term for ongoing medical and behavioral health care.

Zambarano Hospital, in Burrillville, provides mainly long-term medical care for seriously ill or injured patients.
