Rhode Island health officials will channel $1.4 million in the fight against substance abuse. Federal grant money will create five regional task forces to help prevent substance abuse. The task forces will also provide communities with resources to curb the existing opioid problem.
The Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals made the announcement days after new data reported an increase in drug overdose-related deaths- 30 percent since 2011.
