Residents of southern New England woke up to more snow than expected Tuesday. The National Weather Service said a band of heavy snow lingered over the state Tuesday morning, and some areas received more snow than expected.
Most forecasts called for up to three inches, but Lenore Correia, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said some parts of the state had already seen more than that by early morning.
“Down in West Warwick we’re seeing snowfall amounts near five, six inches,” Correia said. “Snow will continue through the morning, but right now the strong snow band that dropped a lot of that snow is moving out of Rhode Island.”
T.F. Green airport had received three inches by 7 a.m.
Correia said the band of snow that sat over the state Tuesday morning was stronger and heavier than expected, but would move out of the area by Tuesday afternoon.
