Former Massachusetts governor and 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney was treated for prostate cancer last year. An aide revealed the treatment as Romney considers a run for U.S. Senate.
Romney, a Republican, is considering the seat currently held by fellow Republican, Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, who has announced he will not seek re-election this fall. The Romney aide who revealed the diagnosis spoke on the condition of anonymity because the aide was not authorized to discuss a sensitive health issue publicly.
According to the aide, the cancer was removed surgically and found not to have spread beyond the prostate.
Romney is 70 years old.
