The Rhode Island Department of Transportation will use the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery, or TIGER, grant to pay for the Route 37 Bridge and Roadway Improvement Project.
The $20 million grant will be used to replace a series of 15 bridges and culverts along Route 37, which connects Cranston and Warwick. Also, the project will make modifications to the westbound exit 3 off-ramp to improve safety and mobility.
In a press release, Senator Jack Reed said, “This is a big-ticket highway and bridge project for the state that will enhance safety and efficiency along Route 37. I’m pleased we were able to secure $20 million in federal support.”
The total cost for the improvements is estimated at $76 million, and RIDOT expects work to being in 2019.
About 42,000 vehicles travel along Route 37 every day linking two major interstate highways , I-295 and I-95.
