Rhode Island is ranked as the 4th most innovative state in New England, and 23rd overall in the country, according to a recent report by WalletHub.

The report, which considered 22 metrics, was sorted in to two categories, the “innovation environment” and the “human capital” rank.  Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the most favorable conditions for innovation. The data set ranged from STEM professionals to tech-company density to tax friendliness.

Rhode Island ranked 4th in the country for fastest average internet speed, 16th best for human capital, and 33rd best innovation environment. In New England, the state ranked behind Massachusetts (#1), New Hampshire (#12), and Connecticut (#13). However, it ranked ahead of Vermont (#32) and Maine (#40).
