The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is giving the Ocean State $479,745 to help seniors with independent living.
The federal grant money helps pay for service coordinators for residents living in assisted multi-family housing developments.
The Service Coordinator Program makes sure residents get connected to health care, meals, transportation already available in their communities.
HUD funding will be spread out between housing organizations in East Providence, North Providence, Providence, Pawtucket, Warwick, and Woonsocket.
