A coalition of over 35 community organizations, faith leaders, and elected officials hosted a car rally during the Governor’s briefing demanding action on the health and safety of incarcerated people during the pandemic.

The group, Never Again RI, has asked to free all incarcerated people, starting with inmates with medical conditions and those with less than a year left on their sentence.

Raimondo says the state is ramping up testing at the ACI, providing appropriate PPE equipment, and cleaning the facility often.

“As testing gets better and as treatment gets better we’ll make sure that the most vulnerable everywhere including in the ACI will be the beneficiaries of that,” Raimondo said.

Earlier this month, the governor released 52 inmates from the ACI with about 90 days left on their sentences.
