Governor Gina Raimondo plans to stage a summit next week to offer an update on efforts to improve the state’s economy.
Raimondo said the summit — similar to one she staged last December — will happen at 5 p.m. next Wednesday, December 16, at the University of Rhode Island’s Providence campus. The meeting is open to the public, although advance registration is required.
Leaders in business, healthcare, education and other fields will gather to look back and ahead. Rhode Island’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has fallen to 5.3 percent — the lowest rate in years — although a shortage of good jobs remains a problem.
Raimondo said while there’s still much to do, the summit will offer a chance to measure progress and “build on our momentum as we head into 2016.”
