The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that up to 30 percent of former service members, from the Vietnam War to Iraq and Afghanistan, have Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Not all of them seek treatment, but the VA says that among those who do, a standard regimen of therapy and medication doesn’t work in 20 to 40 percent of cases.

Increasingly, veterans are seeking out alternative mental health care, and much of it is untested. For this week’s The Pulse, Karen Brown from the New England News Collaborative has this report.
