Efforts are already underway to fight potential federal policies from a Donald Trump administration at the state level.

Progressive Providence Democrat Aaron Regunberg has emerged as a vocal critic and organizer against some of President-Elect Trump’s campaign promises.

Representative Regunberg hosted a meeting over the weekend that drew hundreds of activists, organizers and residents. Regunberg said key issues that emerged included fears about loss of healthcare coverage with a repeal of Obamacare, and concerns about abortion and a crackdown on immigration.

“So we want to be creating this network where folks can plug in to support those organizations that currently exists, to support those campaigns that are going to pop up in response to whatever’s coming down the pike in Washington D.C,” said Regunberg.

He said he is ready draft legislation at the state-level if he feels it is necessary. The group plans to meet again convene again in December.

“Our hope is that our next meeting, we can start really dividing up this really big  base of activated folks in to working groups based on different issues, and folks can start organizing on the issues that most energize them,” said Regunberg.

Over the weekend protests against Donald Trump continued in cities nationwide, including in Providence, which voted overwhelmingly for Clinton. Critics have called for protesters to accept the election results.
