As the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise in Rhode Island, Providence College is ending in-person classes one week earlier than planned to allow students to leave campus.

The college will begin online classes this coming Monday, November 16th. In an announcement to students made public Thursday, College President Reverend Kenneth Sicard said residence halls will remain open until November 20th, should students need to stay on campus.

In the statement, Sicard said the decision will allow students to quickly return home before any new travel guidelines or restrictions are put in place that might make it difficult to travel outside Rhode Island. Students are expected to return to campus in January.

Providence College was forced to go into lockdown for two weeks earlier in the semester after a spike of cases sent hundreds of students at the private college into isolation and quarantine.
