Mark Adams, a former Providence College defenseman who played on the Friars 2015 national championship hockey team, died suddenly Monday. He was 27.

“Our program is heartbroken with the passing of Mark,” said Nate Leaman, PC head coach. “He was a great teammate and a special part of our entire community. Our thoughts are prayers are with his entire family.”

No cause of death was given. Adams passing was reported on the PC Hockey team web site.

Adams, of Boxford, Massachusetts, played his prep hockey at Malden Catholic in the Boston suburb of Malden. He was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the 5th round of the National Hockey League Entry Draft.

He was a Friars blue-liner from 2010 to 2015.
