Pawtucket’s nine-member City Council will vote on a resolution Tuesday to support or reject the stadium plan. The vote is non-binding, but even a symbolic rejection of the stadium by hometown councilors in Pawtucket could be a serious obstacle.

It remains unclear when the General Assembly may vote on the concept.

Rhode Island lawmakers continue to hold public hearings on the envisioned stadium near Slater Mill in Pawtucket. Supporters say the ballpark would be an economic catalyst. Opponents object to the proposed use of about $40 million in public borrowing.

At the Statehouse, the Senate remains open to a November vote on the stadium plan. But it remains unclear when the House may consider the measure, and stadium opponents continue to knock on doors in House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello’s district in Cranston.
