In Providence, the Democrat Nirva LaFortune is the winner of the City Council special election held to fill the Ward 3 seat vacated by the recalled Councilman Kevin Jackson.
LaFortune won easily over Republican David Lallier Jr. and independent Chris Reynolds.
Unofficial results from the city Board of Canvassers show LaFortune with roughly 94 percent of the vote. Lallier finished second.
