It’s not a huge changeover. The region had only one House Republican, Bruce Poliquin of Maine, the past two years. And for the two years before that, there were zero.
But Poliquin’s loss to Democrat Jared Golden will leave Maine Senator Susan Collins as the only Republican in the entire New England congressional delegation.
The GOP sustained even greater losses in state legislatures in the region. With gains in New Hampshire, Connecticut and Maine, Democrats now control all legislative chambers in New England.
It’s not a total loss for the Republican Party. They hung on to half of New England’s governor’s offices.
