Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee plans to announce his 2022 campaign Tuesday morning at an East Providence manufacturing company.

McKee is set to launch his bid to retain the governor’s office at the U.S. headquarters of Igus, a German company that makes polymer components and assemblies.

McKee, a 70-year-old Democrat, became governor last March when his predecessor, Gina Raimondo, became U.S. Commerce secretary.

He faces a September primary with four other Democrats, activist Matt Brown, former CVS Health executive Helena Buonanno Foulkes, Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea, and activist Luis Daniel Munoz.

No Republicans have yet announced a run for governor, although recent transplant Ashley Kalus is considering a campaign.
