The Cranston West Little League team competes tonight in the Little League Worlds series. In addition to family and friends, the local team will have a prominent politician cheering them on from the stands.

House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello said he plans to make the trek to Williamsport Pennsylvania for some of the series. Mattiello added that as a Cranston native himself, he’s especially proud.

“This is the first Cranston team in a long time that I’ve seen actually go to Williamsport,” said Mattiello. “It’s very exciting for our community, for our state, and I’ve never been to Williamsport, so that will be a bucket list item checked off.”

Friday is the start of the series, which comprises 16 teams from around the world. The final championship games are held next Sunday.
