Rhode Island’s budget standoff shows no signs of being resolved by the state’s feuding legislative leaders, and it’s threatening to affect state aid to local school districts.

The state government is currently operating at last year’s spending levels. State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner Ken Wagner said Monday that means the DOE is falling about $45 million short to fund school districts and charter schools this year.

Wagner warns, the Office of Management and Budget has stated there’s no guarantee that local communities and school districts will receive funding increases retroactively.
