It was just days ago that Blue Harvest Fisheries, one of New Bedford’s largest fish processors, was shut down after three employees were infected with the coronavirus.

The facility has since reopened, following the Health Department’s order to implement more strict safety standards.

The measures include designating a Health and Safety officer to record staff temperatures at the beginning and end of each shift, requiring production line employees to wear face coverings and shields, and enacting social distancing guidelines.

While details of the call with large employers like Blue Harvest are unknown, it's anticipated there will be discussions on worker's safety and economic stability during the COVID-19 crisis.

The meeting was set up by the Economic Development Council, the New Bedford Health Department, and the Mayor’s office.
