A Kansas City design firm, Pendulum Studio, has been selected to study the future of McCoy Stadium and the area around the ballpark. The company is supposed to releases its findings by the end of next January.
The study by Pendulum Studio is meant to develop a plan and cost estimates for enhancing McCoy Stadium and the surrounding area. Many fans love the 74-year-old ballpark, but attendance for the Triple A PawSox has declined over recent seasons.
In the face of opposition, the PawSox last year dropped a plan to move to a new taxpayer-subsidized stadium in downtown Providence. Instead, the state, the team and the city of Pawtucket agreed to pursue a study of McCoy Stadium.
“We are looking forward to seeing the assessment early next year, and we know Pendulum’s impressive background and expertise will provide our collaborative team with insight into the future of the stadium,” state Department of Administration Director Michael DiBiase said in a statement. “The State will continue to collaborate with the Pawtucket Red Sox and the City of Pawtucket as the vendor moves through this process.”
The three groups will divide the $105,000 cost of paying for the study.
The state said the Pendulum-led team includes S/L/A/M Collaborative, a Connecticut-based architecture and engineering firm; management firm Brailsford & Dunlavey; BETA Group; Barton Malow; and BVH Integrated Services, PC.
