Dear listeners,

It is my great pleasure this week to formally introduce you to The Weekly Catch.

You may already be familiar with this weekly show. We’ve been testing it out for the last several months, working to develop a model for a regular weekly broadcast and podcast, hosted by our own Luis Hernandez, that highlights the work of our journalists at The Public’s Radio. We hope you like what we’ve been doing, because we’re launching it this week as a formal part of The Public’s Radio schedule.

You’ll hear regular conversations between Luis and our Political Reporter Ian Donnis, and feature reports from our talented newsroom journalists across Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. The show will be a space where we can expand on and provide context for investigative and enterprise reporting at The Public’s Radio. The Weekly Catch will also regularly showcase our weekly arts segment, Artscape, and offer you a tease of what’s on tap out and about each weekend.

When and where can you find it?

Every Friday at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in our broadcast lineup, we’ll bring you highlights of the week, through interviews, stories and essays that both capture the best of the week and advance stories that continue to evolve. If you prefer to get your news through podcasts, it will be posted where you regularly download those, as well.

We want The Weekly Catch to be your space, too.

The best journalism is not just about the journalists and what they choose to report. It’s also about you – the community – and the lens through which you see and experience the issues shaping our region. As we move forward with this weekly show, we hope it will become a regular space for your comments and ideas, as well. We’ll be reaching out to you often on air and in our daily newsletter, asking for your thoughts on issues of concern to Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. We hope you’ll become regular “influencers” on air and behind the scenes, as The Weekly Catch settles into its permanent place on the schedule.

With your help, and the hard work of our journalists at The Public’s Radio, we look to the Weekly Catch to become a valuable addition to our public service journalism at The Public’s Radio.

Thanks for listening!
