Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo will break ground Monday on the Wexford Innovation Complex in Providence’s I-195 District. The project is utilizing more than $32 million in state subsidies.
Gov. Raimondo announced plans for the $158 million Wexford development last December. She said construction of the complex will require more than a thousand workers. Hundreds of people will be employed in the finished building, which is set to house the startup incubator Cambridge Innovation Center, among others.
“It is a game changer,” Raimondo said. “This is Boston coming down. This is an MIT-related company setting up shop in Rhode Island and creating hundreds of jobs here.”
The Wexford complex will be the first major project on the land formerly occupied by Interstate 195. Johnson & Johnson will be among the tenants at the site, along with a hotel and Brown University’s School of Professional Studies.
