Gallison was sentenced to more than four years in prison after pleading guilty to nine different counts, including mail and wire fraud, filing false tax returns and identity theft. All those charges added up to 51 months of prison time for the one-time leader of the powerful Rhode Island House Finance Committee.
Gallison, who served in the General Assembly for 16 years, stole more than $600,000 from a variety of sources, including the estate of a deceased man he was entrusted to steward, and an education non-profit. It was his position of power, prosecutors claimed, that lulled Gallison into a sense of entitlement, and a belief that his white-collar crimes would go unnoticed.
Upon his release from federal prison, Gallison is required to complete 100 hours of community service.
