The former Patriots’ tight end killed himself while in prison for murder. State corrections officials say Hernandez was found just after three this morning hanging by a bed sheet.
He was pronounced dead at a hospital in Leominster about an hour later. The corrections department says Hernandez tried to block entry to a single occupancy cell by jamming items in the doorway. Hernandez was serving a life sentence for the 2013 murder of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.
He was acquitted last week of a 2012 double-murder, but was convicted of illegal possession of a handgun. Dan Guzman in Boston.
