Florence is no longer a hurricane, but forecasters say it’s still packing a punch.
The National Weather Service has placed Providence and Kent Counties under a flood watch Tuesday, as the aftermath of Florence is expected to bring rain starting Monday night.
The National Weather Service predicts one to three inches of rain for Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, with the chance for locally higher amounts.
Lenore Correia from the National Weather Service says drivers should take extra care, especially if there is standing water on the road.
“So if you see any flooded roadways, do not attempt to drive through it,” Correia said. “Our saying is ‘turn around, don’t drown.’ Even if it’s tempting to drive through it cause you’re late for work or something, it’s not worth it.”
Rain is expected to taper off Tuesday night. Correia says high winds are not expected at this time.
