Filippi said the effect of the virus is so dramatic that everything has to be considered.

“I think you’re seriously going to have to look at the car tax, I think you’re going to have to look at some kind of municipal consolidation to save money," the Block Island Republican said in an interview with The Public's Radio. "So much of our state budget -- I think over a billion dollars - goes to municipalities and state aid. I don’t think anything is going to escape the hatchet.”

Republicans are calling for the legislature to plan to resume meetings. Governor Gina Raimondo has said that responding to the coronavirus crisis is the most important thing and that legislative meetings are not needed now.
