- 10:34 p.m., White’s of Westport, via Ben Berke: Hodgson’s campaign has seen some discouraging election returns so far. The sheriff lost his hometown of Dartmouth, where one of his jails is located. And in New Bedford, where he used to serve as a city councilor, Hodgson suffered a blowout: winning just 7,922 votes to Paul Heroux’s 12,508, according to preliminary results. But Hodgson says the race is still close, and he’s keeping his eyes on Taunton, another city further north in Bristol County that hasn’t reported results yet. “We’re used to this,” said Hodgson. “It’s typically slow coming in. The south for us usually isn’t as strong for us as the north. We’re getting ready to start heading north and we’ll be looking forward to the outcome.”
- 10:21 p.m., Somerset VFW Hall, via Leah Freeman: The crowd cheers as Democrat Paul Heroux announces a 5,000-vote lead in New Bedford, according to a volunteer who spoke to the election commissioner.
- 10:16 p.m., White’s of Westport, via Ben Berke: Preliminary results trickling in for the Bristol County sheriff’s race indicate it’s close. Jonathan Darling, a spokesman for the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office, says “We’re either up 1,000 or down 1,000 depending on who has what.”
- 10:12 p.m., The Graduate Providence, via Alex Nunes: Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee and representative-elect Seth Magaziner gave victory speeches to close out a jubilant evening for Rhode Island Democrats at the Graduate Providence hotel. After his victory over Republican Ashley Kalus, McKee told the crowd he would build on what the state has already accomplished since he became governor in March 2021. Magaziner thanked second congressional district opponent, Republican Allan Fung, and said he would represent voters of all political backgrounds in Washington.
- 10:04 p.m., White’s of Westport, via Ben Berke: According to preliminary results from the town’s election department, Tom Hodgson has lost the vote for Bristol County Sheriff in his hometown of Dartmouth. In nearby Somerset, Heroux’s campaign let out some cheers for this symbolic victory, but Dartmouth is only a small fraction of Bristol County’s votes, and it’s still too early in the night to get even a rough snapshot of how the election will end. Back at White’s of Westport, Hodgson’s campaign manager says the sheriff hasn’t looked at any results yet. Hodgson is still making the rounds in a packed house.
- 10:01 p.m., The Graduate Providence: It’s a good night for the crowd at the Graduate hotel, where, minutes after Gov. Dan McKee gave a victory speech, Democrat Seth Magaziner delivered his own. Although Republican challenger Allan Fung has conceded, the Associated Press has not yet called the race for Magaziner.
- 9:50 p.m., The Graduate Providence: After winning the race for Rhode Island Governor, Dan McKee gave a victory speech to his supporters at the Graduate hotel in downtown Providence. Republican challenger Ashley Kalus has conceded.
- 9:49 p.m., Twin Oaks, Cranston, via Ian Donnis: In Rhode Island, Republican Allan Fung has conceded to Democrat Seth Magaziner in the race for Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District.
- 9:48 p.m., White’s of Westport, via Ben Berke: The room at White’s is buzzing and getting louder as Tom Hodgson makes the rounds. He hugs nearly every supporter he greets. Hodgson’s wife Jo Anne, his campaign manager, says they still have not dug into the early election results for the Bristol County Sheriff’s race, which his volunteers are compiling across the room.
- 9:41 p.m., Somerset VFW Hall, via Leah Freeman: At Paul Heroux’s headquarters, the crowd begins to cheer upon hearing that the Democratic candidate for Massachusetts’ Bristol County sheriff has won Dartmouth and Easton.
- 9:37 p.m., via Lynn Arditi: Aaron Guckian, GOP candidate for Rhode Island Lieutenant Governor, has conceded to incumbent Democrat Sabina Matos. The Associated Press has not yet called the race.
- 9:35 p.m., White’s of Westport, via Ben Berke: In Massachusetts, unlike Rhode Island, votes are counted by separate election departments in each city and town. To get results early on election night, campaigns like Hodgson’s have volunteers driving from town to town to cobble together a snapshot of what’s going on. At Hodgson’s election party in Westport, a volunteer serving as the room’s nerve center for election results says she has only heard from about 10% of precincts so far. Hodgson himself just arrived at 9:34 p.m., more than an hour and a half after polls closed.
- 9:28 p.m.: The Associated Press has declared Joseph Polisena, Jr. the winner in the race for mayor of Johnston, Rhode Island.
- 9:18 p.m., White’s of Westport, via Ben Berke: In a region where most elected officials are Democrats, Republican Sheriff Thomas Hodgson has few politicians at his election night party — but New Bedford City Councilor Naomi Carney is there. She works for Hodgson running the county jail’s inmate work program, which has been doing daily community service projects across the county for years. Carney scanned the crowd for other people she knew from local politics: she spotted former State Rep. Jim Timilty, Taunton City Councilor John McCaul, and Hank Turgeon, the former president of New Bedford’s police union.
- 9:17 p.m., Twin Oaks, Cranston, via Ian Donnis: The crowd of Republican Allan Fung’s supporters is subdued, as returns show Democrat Seth Magaziner leading in the race for Rhode Island’s Second Congressional District.

- 9:15 p.m.: The Associated Press has declared incumbent Democrat Peter Neronha the winner in the race for Rhode Island Attorney General.
- 9:10 p.m.: The Associated Press has declared incumbent Democrat David Cicilline the winner in the race for Rhode Island’s 1st U.S. House District.
- 9:06 p.m., via Ian Donnis: With 93% of precincts and mail ballots, Democrat Seth Magaziner has regained the lead in Rhode Island’s Second Congressional District race.
- 9:02 p.m., Graduate Providence, via Alex Nunes: At just before 9 p.m., U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse announced to a jubilant crowd at the Graduate Providence hotel that the Rhode Island governor’s race has been called for Democrat Dan McKee. The crowd began chanting “Four more years!”
- 9:02 p.m., White’s of Westport, via Ben Berke: Supporters of Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson are gathering as results begin to trickle in precinct by precinct. Hodgson and his wife Jo Anne, who is also his campaign manager, have not arrived yet. Hodgson is in a closely watched race with Democratic challenger Paul Heroux.

- 8:41 p.m., The Event Factory, Warwick, via Lynn Arditi: Ashley Kalus, Republican candidate for governor of Rhode Island, is gathering at the Event Factory. Among the attendees are Emmanuel Nyema, 40, a Republican candidate for state Rep. District 11. He says low turnout in his district is “not encouraging.” Nyema, a former refugee from Liberia, says the Republican Party speaks to his values of “family, God + country.”
- 8:00 p.m.: The Associated Press has called the Massachusetts governor’s race for Democrat Maura Healey.
- 7:43 p.m., The Graduate Providence hotel, via Alex Nunes: The Rhode Island Democratic Party is stationed tonight at the Graduate Providence hotel. Guests are beginning to arrive already at the former Biltmore’s second floor garden room. Governor Dan McKee and congressional hopeful Seth Magaziner will be among those on hand as the election results come in.
- 7:34 p.m., Twin Oaks, Cranston, via Ian Donnis: With minutes until polls close, supporters of Allan Fung, Republican candidate for Rhode Island’s Second Congressional District, are starting to gather. Fung is in a nationally watched contest with Democrat Seth Magaziner.
