Free flu shots are available at many health centers, schools and pharmacies throughout Rhode Island. But those places are rarely visited by some of those at greatest risk for getting sick – people with substance abuse problems.
Opioids are known to suppress the body’s immune system, meaning users are more vulnerable to infection. That’s why a Westerly clinic is offering free flu shots for patients with drug or alcohol abuse problems.
The Journey to Hope, Health, and Healing is partnering with Wood River Health Services to provide free vaccines at the clinic Friday morning.
