A western Massachusetts man has pleaded guilty to plotting a domestic terrorist attack. The 2015 plot never came to fruition. However, 25-year-old Alexander Ciccolo could’ve faced up to life in prison.
Alexander Ciccolo’s deal comes with a 20-year prison sentence, followed by supervised release for the rest of his life.
Prosecutors said he plotted to attack a college cafeteria with Molotov cocktails, guns and a pressure cooker bomb on behalf of ISIS. Ciccolo’s attorney, David Hoose, said his client no longer supports ISIS, and gave the guilty plea a lot of thought.
“Nobody’s happy about forfeiting 20 years of his life, but he recognized that this was the best way to resolve these charges,” said Hoose.
A sentencing hearing is set for September. If the judge rejects the deal, Ciccolo could withdraw his guilty pleas and go to trial.
