Sovijja Pou, a senior at Brown University, will compete next week as one of two swimmers representing Cambodia. His event, the 100-meter freestyle, is scheduled for Tuesday.

A competitive swimmer since the age of five, Pu is working toward a degree in Brown’s selective Program in Liberal Medical Education. The eight-year program combines an undergraduate degree with a medical school degree.

Pu, a dual citizen of the U.S. and Cambodia, grew up in Portland, Oregon.

According to Brown, he will join 64 athletes from the university who have gone on to Olympic competition. This year, alums Tessa Gobbo (’13) and Anders Weiss (’15) will compete with the U.S. rowing team. And Louisa Chafee (’14) is a member of the U.S. sailing team.
