Gov. Gina Raimondo and other top Rhode Island Democrats are lining up to take part in what’s billed as the large single Rhode Island fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

A host committee Zoom session for the fundraiser is set for 5-5:30 pm on July 29.

“The plan is to schedule the fundraiser after the Democratic Convention in late August or early September,” according to a copy of an invite obtained by The Public’s Radio. “We intend to have Biden’s newly nominated Vice President as our special guest along with one or two top officials from the Biden campaign.”

According to the invite, co-hosts will be asked to give or get contributions of $5,000.

Raimondo is serving as an honorary co-chair for the event, along with the four members of the state’s congressional delegation, U.S. Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and U.S. Reps. David Cicilline and Jim Langevin.

“This will be the largest single fundraiser for the Biden campaign in Rhode Island (and other non-Rhode Island supporters) and will send an important message about our state’s commitment to sending Trump permanently back to Mar-a-Lago,” according to the invitation.

Co-chairs for the event are RI’s Democratic National Committeeman Joseph R. Paolino Jr.; Donald Sweitzer, who served as treasurer of the Democratic Governors Association during Raimondo’s recent tenure leading the DGA; Liz Beretta-Perik, treasurer of the RI Democratic Party; and Arthur Solomon.

Raimondo is known for her skill as a fundraiser. The contact person for the event is Kate Ramstad, who has helped to coordinate Raimondo’s fundraising.
