Tomorrow is opening day for trout fishing in the state and environmental officials are telling anglers to use caution.

Opening day of trout season is one of the biggest recreational fishing days of the year, according to the state Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.

DEM officials stock an estimated 80,000 trout in over 100 waterways for the event, but waters in rivers and streams are expected to be high this weekend following several days of heavy rain. Officials suggest staying away due to stronger currents.

But anglers can still get their catch of rainbow and brown trout. The DEM has almost 60 stocked ponds from which the expected 20,000 opening day from which participants can choose.

A full list of locations is listed on the DEM’s website.
