Author Laird Hunt, professor of literary arts at Brown University, is out with a haunting new book, in his series of female-narrated historical novels. The setting for this one is early colonial New England, where the new residents are bound by their strict religion and living in precarious settlements on the edge of an unfamiliar wilderness. The woods are inhabited by an indigenous population the colonists refer to as The First Folk. And there are wolves, and other, more ominous things, in the woods. The novel begins with a young wife and mother setting off on a routine chore, gathering food for her family. Author Laird Hunt began by reading from his novel In The House In The Dark Of The Woods.
Hunt will be reading from the novel Thursday night at Riffraff Bookstore on Valley St. in the Olneyville neighborhood of Providence, at 8 p.m.
