On Friday Governor Raimondo signed legislation to streamline food truck regulations in Rhode Island.
Starting in January, food trucks will be able to use a state-wide permit to operate throughout the state. Currently trucks need a permit for every city or town in which they operate.
Supporters say cutting back on paperwork and inspections for each town will encourage new food trucks to open.
But some food truck owners aren’t so sure. Patricia Meneguzzo, co-owner of Rocket Fine Street food, said the bill will make regulations more complicated.
“All the bill does for me is increase regulation, one more step in permitting, and more cost,” Meneguzzo said.
Cities and towns will still control when and where trucks can set up shop, and may require event permits.
