Warwick Police have identified the body discovered in the Pawtuxet River Wednesday afternoon. An investigation remains ongoing.

Police have identified a 55 year-old Cranston resident, and believe the cause of death was related to suicide. Next of kin have been notified. The police discovered the body while looking for a mannequin during a routine search and rescue training in the Pawtuxet River.

“This was the first time I can think of in my career, and the first time for any of our divers, where they were just out there training and came across something like this,” said Ullucci. “They’re already in a training mode and practicing for real life scenarios and it becomes one right in front of them.”

Ullucci says the Warwick Police dive team conducts body recovery training drills approximately once a month. The body is believed to have been in the water for about 24 hours.
