Trinity Repertory Company, which has also been named the State Theater of Rhode Island, has selected Tom Parrish as its new executive director.
Parrish comes from a similar position at the Geva Theater Center in New York, according to the official announcement of his hiring.
His other experience includes stints at Merrimack Repertory Theatre in Lowell, Massachusetts and San Diego Repertory Theatre. Parrish will replace former Executive Director Michael Gennaro, who stepped down in February for a job at Goodspeed Musicals.
Officials at Trinity Rep. said Parrish will assume the post in late fall.
The new season at Trinity Rep. starts later this month with a production of Julius Caesar. Last season featured a world premiere of the musical "Melancholy Play" by the playwright Sarah Ruhl. Trinity Rep. Artistic Director Curt Columbus said he is pleased with the choice of Parrish.
"He has a track record of being a strong community player in every organization he has led, " Columbus said in a written statement. "I look forward to collaborating with him on making Trinity's next chapter a thrilling one."
Parrish said he is drawn to the "dynamic creative community" in Rhode Island.
"Trinity Repertory Company has an outstanding reputation as one of the country's finest theater companies, and I am honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to build on that tradition of artistic and organizational success," Parrish said.
