Once again it is time – if you haven’t already - to get your tickets to the Providence Newspaper’s Guild’s annual Follies show at the Venus de Milo in Swansea, Mass. As always the show, a spoof of all things Rhode Island, but especially our state’s entertaining political culture, is slated for the last Friday evening in February, which this year falls on Feb. 27th.
While tickets are moving out the door, there are still some left for this year’s Follies of 2014 show. So, unless you fancy sitting on Route 6, you had best get yer tickets ASAP. As always, the show is presented by the guild, the union representing workers at the Providence Journal, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, and other New England newspapers.
The Follies was started in 1973 to heal the wounds after a bitter 13-day strike by the Newspaper Guild against the Providence Journal. Every year since, this event has brought together Rhode Island’s business, labor, educational and political elite for a night of fun, frolic and laughter.
As usual, the show will be capped with a mystery guest drawn from the realm of politics. Past mystery guests have included Buddy Cianci, Alan Fung, Barney Frank, John Kerry, Jack Reed, Linc Chafee, Nancy Mayer, Bill Bradley, Ron Machtley, Bruce Sundlun, Ed DiPrete, Richard Licht, Joe Paolino Jr., Bob Flanders, Joe Garrahy, Bill Bradley, Bill Murphy, Claiborne Pell, John Chafee, Joe Montalbano, Patrick Kennedy, and Elizabeth Roberts.
The event features one of New England’s ,longest cocktail hours, the great Venus three Lipitor buffet and a mid-winter night of fun. (Don’t we all need a respite from winter this year?)
For tickets, call the Providence Newspaper Guild office at 401-421-9466. Be there or be very square! Get yer tickets now or risk being seated on Route 6.
