Major Gen. Kevin R. McBride, adjutant general of Rhode Island, is retiring in June, Gov. Gina Raimondo announced in a news release.
McBride has served as adjutant general since his appointment by then-Gov. Lincoln Chafee in 2010, and took over command of the 3,300 member Rhode Island National Guard.
He led the guard through a time of nearly continuous deployments in support of the U.S. military’s combat of global terrorism . More than 2,000 individual deployments occurred during McBride’s tenure. And he also led the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency during times of federal and state emergencies.
Raimondo has created a search committee to choose a new commanding general for the guard. It will be chaired by Lt. Gen. Reginald Centracchio (Ret).
