Commerce Secretary Stefan Pryor announced Thursday the installation of a new leadership team at the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation, the quasi-public entity formerly known as the Economic Development Corporation.
Pryor, recently confirmed as Rhode Island's first Commerce secretary, appointed commercial real estate veteran Darin Early as chief operating officer of Commerce RI. Early will be responsible for day to day operations and overall direction at the agency.
Pryor said Daniel Jennings will be senior economic development advisor at the Commerce Corporation, and that former director Marcel Valois will continue in a new role, as a senior economic development advisor.
“Today we are strengthening Rhode Island’s economic development team in order to enable the implementation of the Governor’s ambitious economic agenda,” Pryor said in a statement. “Darin and Dan bring significant hands-on development experience to the Commerce Corporation. These professionals will help us to support existing businesses, attract new enterprises, and catalyze Rhode Island's economy.”
According to the release announcing the changes, Early worked for 11 years at the commercial real estate firm Jones Lang LaSalle and currently consults on real estate and business investments in Los Angeles. Early worked on the redevelopment of the World Trade Center.
Jennings worked as senior vice president at Brick City Development Corporation, the counterpart to the Commerce Corporation in Newark, NJ. He served as a deputy mayor in Newark and director of economic and housing development for the city.
Pryor previously worked on economic development in Newark and New York.
