The City of Providence has rolled out a new initiative to implement the city’s sustainability plan, aimed at reducing the effects of climate change. The initiative has a strong focus on community outreach.
Mayor Jorge Elorza said the city has had a longstanding goal of having higher rates of recycling, composting, walking, and bicycling among other related goals. But he said the city has to do a better job of informing people about programs designed to reduce their carbon footprints. The city’s new SustainPVD initiative is aiming to change that.
“We can only engage the public if they have access to the information they need," said Elorza. "So we’ve highlighted that as a key priority in our SustainPVD initiative."
He added the city’s Sustain PVD website is a one-stop shop for resources. It includes information about carpooling, solar energy programs, home energy assessments, and more.
