The proposal backed by legislative leaders to strengthen the state Ethics Commission will get an initial hearing Tuesday. House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello and Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed unveiled the ethics measure last week.
The House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing, although it’s not expected to vote on the measure Tuesday. Good government groups have given qualified support to the move to restore ethics oversight of legislative conflicts of interest.
If lawmakers approve the ethics measure, voters would vote in November on whether to strengthen the Ethics Commission.
